Description

This is a PRE-ORDER for an O scale model of the locally significant Skaneateles Short Line General Electric 44-Ton Diesel Locomotive #6.

We have been granted a green light to produce 44-Ton diesel locomotives in O scale and pleased to offer our latest model in our Exclusive Product Collection; Skaneateles Short Line Railroad #6 as it appeared in local service.

In 1950, the Skaneateles Short Line railroad acquired a GE 44-ton diesel locomotive and numbered it "6". It served the local community for several years, quickly becoming an icon of the popular lakeside community. The closure of a mill in the village in 1969 led the railroad to abandon the track between the village of Skaneateles and Skaneateles Falls, a distance of only 3 miles.

The #6 then went to the Lowville & Beaver River railroad originally intended as a parts engine but since it was in such good condition it became #1951 and continued to serve faithfully in northern New York. Today this locomotive is owned by the Mohawk, Adirondack and Northern, based in Utica, New York.
