The formation of Amtrak created an opportunity to re-define the US inter-city passenger experience in the early 1970s. Armed with the slogan “Making the
Trains Worth Traveling Again”, Amtrak contracted with Budd to design an all-stainless steel car whose interiors could be readily re-configured to support a
variety of potential needs, resulting in the Amfleet series. Over 490 Amfleet-1 cars, the basis of the Atlas Premier model, were delivered, with most still on
the rails today. The durable and successful design has been a fixture of train travel for over 50 years, and has been the recognizable face of dependable
passenger service, especially on the heavily traveled Northeast Corridor connecting the major cities of the East Coast.
These Atlas Premier Line models feature intricately detailed, yet durable ABS bodies atop smooth rolling die-cast metal trucks resulting in a lightweight car
that won’t bog down a locomotive struggling to pull heavy aluminum passenger cars. What’s more, each Premier Line passenger car features detailed car
interiors and overhead lighting for a realistic and authentic appearance.
