Description

In Utica, it was Francis Xavier Matt making the famous Utica Club beer, however in Syracuse for many the clear choice for a cold beer was Haberle's Congress. The Haberle Brewery was founded on Syracuse's North Side in 1857 at the corner of North McBride and Butternut streets. Its hilltop location was ideal for the excavation of storage cellars for beer barrels. In the 1890s, Haberle began using the brand name Congress for its light-colored German-style lager and grew over time, producing 12,000 barrels in 1881 and 60,000 in 1894. When Prohibition ended in 1933, the brewery was among a handful in Syracuse to reopen and renamed itself Haberle Congress Brewing Co. Despite its best efforts to survive Prohibition, the Depression, World War II plus increased competition from national brands, the brewery was forced to close down in 1962. Like many breweries of the mid to late 20th century, the advertisements for beer was colorful and attractive intending to show a good time with your favorite local brew. Billboards, newspaper advertisements, beer trays, colorful bottle labels, cans, glasses, mugs and bar signs were placed everywhere. Because of this, Syracusan's far and wide have a great fondness of their hometown Congress Beer.Fans of the brand continue to enjoy it today through a cooperation of a local brewery and the Onondaga Historical Association, whom we are very grateful for allowing Jr Junction Train & Hobby to have this classic advertising model billboard produced.

This model is extremely limited in quantity and will not be reproduced again. Join us by commemorating our 25th year as Syracuse and Utica's local and upstate New York's premier full-line model railroad and hobby store with this and many other exclusive model railroad collectibles. This fully assembled lighted billboard is pre-mounted on a base for easy placement anywhere on the layout. For those looking for a more prototypical look, the base can be quickly removed and the billboard legs can be easily inserted into soft styrofoam ground cover for a more realistic appearance. The three overhead lamps cast a soft glow on the bright and realistic looking graphics and are sure to make any layout's dark scenes really pop. The lamps are powered by any AC or DC model railroad power supply including the MTH family of transformer's using their accessory ports.
