Easily distinguished by their streamlined cupola and large end "porches", the Conrail N8 Caboose served all parts of the railroad. Although they were the youngest of the PRR cabins inherited by Conrail, they were nearly as old as the oldest from the New York Central. Consequently, the N8 numbers thinned quickly at the end.
