It served the local community for several years, quickly becoming an icon of the popular lakeside community. The closure of a mill in the village in 1969 led the railroad to abandon the track between the village of Skaneateles and Skaneateles Falls, a distance of only 3 miles.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe #6 then went to the Lowville \u0026amp; Beaver River railroad originally intended as a parts engine but since it was in such good condition it became #1951 and continued to serve faithfully in northern New York.
