This is our Jr Junction Train & Hobby exclusive custom release of this accurate, beautifully detailed O Gauge model of the Boston & Albany #1179 Caboose. The Boston & Albany Railroad connected Boston, Massachusetts to Albany, New York. It later became part of the New York Central System as a subsidiary. The Boston & Albany shared many of New York Central’s equipment and special freight car designs including New York Central’s famous 19,000 series caboose.

This Premier model represents a typical woodsided, steel under frame caboose built in the early 20th century by New York Central’s Despatch Shops in Oswego NY. While new construction generally switched to all-steel by the 1920s, hundreds of refurbished wood cabooses with steel under frames were still seen on the entire New York Central System and its subsidiary lines into the 1960s. MTH Premier O Scale freight cars are the perfect complement to any manufacturer’s scale proportioned O Gauge locomotives. Whether you prefer to purchase cars separately or assemble a unit train, MTH Premier Rolling Stock has the cars for you in a variety of car types and paint schemes.

This sturdy Boston & Albany caboose is offered in two car numbers and also available in two restored existing New York Central models which makes it even easier than ever to combine them into multi-trains and dioramas. Many of MTH’s Premier Rolling Stock offerings can also operate on the tightest O Gauge curves giving them even more added versatility to your layout. This three-rail caboose may easily be upgraded to scale two-rail trucks and Kadee (style) scale couplers.
