B-variant Messerschmitt Me 262s were trainers, but the pilots behind the sticks were no novices. The learning curve for flying the first jet-powered aircraft must have been unimaginably steep. The technology was brand new, many of the concepts untested, and pilots would be going directly into combat against an experienced and determined enemy. With the speed and heavy armament of the Me 262, however, the opposition could be overcome if the pilots could overcome the teething problems of the aircraft.
